At ES REBOST we do not only take care of our customers, we are also committed to care about other aspects that go beyond a good service and produce. Nowadays, this is known as corporate governance. However, we prefer to call it common sense. How is our common sense defined? We intend to simultaneously increase and reduce our impact on society and our surroundings. How do we do that? On the one hand, we increase our impact promoting the Mallorcan primary sector by giving absolute priority to locally sourced, quality produce. On the other hand, we minimize our impact on the environment by reducing our carbon footprint.
From its very first moment, ES REBOST has opted for local products and has collaborated with local producers. ES REBOST's mission is to be a catalyst for our natural environment and cultural heritage by channelling local flavours and traditions through every bite, the service, the decoration and the atmosphere in our premises. We work closely with our artisan producers and develop some of our products with them. We foster their presence in our restaurants and means of communication to help them survive and grow. We would love to see some of the big hotel companies follow our footsteps and contribute to maintaining products and traditions which are integral part of our heritage. The primary sector is one of the backbones of our culture and we all should take part in fostering its revival. We are aware of the fact that an extra cost is involved when sourcing and developing products with artisan purveyors of the Mallorcan primary and secondary sector. But we have been lucky enough to experience that the vast majority of our customers favour and support our initiative and we would like to express our deep gratitude for that.
All our collaterals are printed on FSC certified paper, FSC standing for Forest Stewardship Council. FSC certified paper comes from a sustainable forest where the ecological, social and economical aspects are correctly taken care of. The FSC is an international non-profit organization created with the goal of promoting a responsible forest management, environmentally friendly and socially and economically viable. The FSC certificate guarantees that the products come from forests which are well taken care of, well-used, and which follow their principles and criteria.
All the cleaning products used in ES REBOST are certified with the UE ECO-label. They are 100% biodegradable, thus contributing to the protection of our environment and our customers at the same time.
Our take-away packaging also follows the same line of respect for our environment. Therefore, we have chosen packaging containers that seem to be made of regular plastic (PET) but they are not. The material is called PLA. Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable and bioactive thermoplastic aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch, cassava roots or sugarcane. Unfortunately there are only a few businesses that use PLA material, as the cost is a bit higher than that of regular materials (PET). However, we believe that using PLA is another way to contribute towards improving our environment.
